The Canine Care Card is a FREE service that gives you peace of mind, knowing that Dogs Trust will care for your dog/s if you pass away before they do.
What happens if your dog goes to Dogs Trust
If you pass away and have a Canine Care Card, Dogs Trust will arrange to take your dog/s to their nearest rehoming centre. Upon arrival, they will be examined by an expert vet and cared for by dedicated, trained staff.
They will find your dog/s new owners whose lifestyle and experience match their needs. But if for any reason your dog/s cannot be rehomed, rest assured Dogs Trust never puts down a healthy dog, so they will look after them for the rest of their lives.
Dogs Trust treats every one of their canine residents like a beloved family pet and will ensure that they get all the loving care they need in their state-of-the-art facilities.
How to apply for a Canine Care Card
Complete an application form and return it to Dogs Trust. Upon receipt, they will issue you with a handy wallet-sized card. It acts in a similar way to an organ donor card and notifies people of your wishes for your dog/s, should anything happen to you.
Dogs Trust also strongly recommend that you mention the care of your dog/s in your Will. That way, there can be no confusion about your wishes. They suggest that you include the following phrase in your Will:
“It is also my wish that Dogs Trust cares for or rehomes any dogs that I may own at the time of my death”.
To request an application form or find out more about the Canine Care Card, please call Dogs Trust Supporter Relations team on 020 7837 0006 or email them.
